Many forms ask for “a single PDF”: your CV, cover letter and certificates in one file, or every page of an assignment together. If your documents are in separate PDFs, you need to merge them. You don’t need Adobe Acrobat or any app for this. A browser is enough.
Before you start: get the order right
The person reading your file will see the pages in the order you merge them. Decide that order first. For a job application, a common order is cover letter, CV, then certificates from newest to oldest. For an assignment, follow the order your teacher asked for, usually a title page first.
It also helps to give your files clear names like 1-cover-letter.pdf and 2-cv.pdf, so you can spot them quickly.
How to merge PDFs on a computer
- Open the Merge PDF tool in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- Drag all your PDF files onto the page at once, or click Choose files and select them. Hold Ctrl on Windows or Cmd on Mac to select several.
- Use the up and down arrows next to each file to put them in the right order.
- Click Merge PDF, then Download. You’ll get one file called merged.pdf, which you can rename.
How to merge PDFs on Android or iPhone
- Open the Merge PDF page in your phone’s browser.
- Tap Choose files. On Android, pick the files from your Downloads or Files app. On iPhone, tap Browse to open the Files app, where WhatsApp and email attachments are often saved.
- Add more files the same way until all of them are listed, then set the order with the arrows.
- Tap Merge PDF and then Download. The merged file appears in your Downloads (Android) or Files app (iPhone).
What if one of your documents is a photo?
Merge PDF only accepts PDF files. If one of your documents is a JPG or PNG, for example a photo of a certificate, convert it first with JPG to PDF. Then add that new PDF to the merge.
Fixing problems after merging
- A page is in the wrong place. Open the merged file in Organize PDF and move the page with the arrows.
- A page is sideways. Use Rotate PDF and click that page to turn it.
- There’s an extra blank page. Remove it with Remove Pages.
- The merged file is too large to upload. Run it through Compress PDF.
- A file won’t open in the tool. It’s probably password protected. Open it in your PDF reader with the password, save an unprotected copy, and try again.
Is it safe to merge private documents online?
With Convertpdfly, yes. The merging happens inside your browser, so your files are never uploaded to a server. You can read more about how to check this for any website in our guide Are online PDF tools safe?
